Cloning a plant

Today I decided to "clone a plant" I am testing this and thought I would share with all of you how I did it, I have read some articles about it and I took the simple road, let's wait a few weeks and see what happens.

I suppose you can do this with almost any mature plant you can find in your yard, I know my mom has done it with hibiscus trees and it worked for her.

I will be using tomato plants.

Ok here is what I did.

I took 2 empty glassed jars to use them as my containers, I thought they looked deep enough and it's another way to re use them.

Then you need to make sure you have this stuff, it's a white powder you can find it at Lowe's and Home Depot, its about $5 bucks. And if you don't do much cloning it will last you a while. My mom let me use hers because they were all out at Lowe's, thanks Mamita.

Then you ask your 4 year old to collect rocks which will be used for drainage at the bottom of the jars.

Then you ask your older kids to fill the jars about 1/4 full of rocks, they might of done 1/3 though but they did a great job!

And now for the fun part you ask them to fill the jars with soil, preferably organic soil or compost would work even better!

Now you cut 2 pieces from your mother plant in a 45 degree angle with a very sharp knife, place your stems in water right away to keep them moist.

Remove the leaves at the bottom, I just removed those 2 you see at the bottom. now scrape the end of your plants with the knife.

Dunk the stems in the white powder I showed you earlier.

Then plant them in your containers with moist soil.

Now water them and place them either outside or inside where they can get indirect sunlight from a window.

I truly hope these will grow, my kids did all the work and now they are so excited about getting some blooms out of this plants! I will keep you updated!
